For this version of prompt night, we were given three words to use in our short amount of time: Year 3018, Night Sky, Freedom.
I went a little different than usual but hope you enjoy it. (:
Until Next Time,
Communications Log: X3J91
Communications Number: 473
It has been three hundred and twenty-seven days since the war ended. We’ve reached maximum capacity on freeing all nations within Sector Valcor as we enter Year 3018 and so far our efforts have proven successful. The inhabitants are flourishing with their newfound freedom. Already, we can see signs of new vegetation from their work ethics and overall, the creatures seem happy with their new location.
We have encountered a new species within Sector Wendigo. This is precisely 7.8 meters from the water’s edge near the Isle of Bossor. We intend to investigate over the next few weeks after establishing a secure parameter for Sector Valor. Commander Montague has been informed of our plans and has instructed us with protocol should we need to deviate from the mission.
Life forms show signs of intelligence and strategic movement. We are not sure if they are hostile. Further information to be provided in the next log, should the mission be successful.

Casey closed down her laptop and wondered what the next few weeks would be like. From everything they had seen, the new life forms appeared harmless, but she wasn’t willing to bet her life on it.
With only three hours until they left, she considered talking to Jackson before heading out. Their relationship had taken a backseat to the mission, which they both understood initially. However, lately, it seemed like Jackson wanted her to give up her role as second in command to be with him. She had considered it before, but couldn’t justify the decision now. Her unit needed her. Jackson, of all people, should understand that.
But he didn’t.
Her eyes wandered in his direction as he walked to the central hub. She didn’t feel quite as hungry as she had before and decided against following him there. ‘No,” she muttered. “He’ll have to wait until I get back.” She let the words linger in the night air and rested her head against the wall. Maybe, everything would be okay. For now, all she could think about was the mission. Her team needed her to be on her A-game. She closed her eyes and let her mind consider what the new life forms meant for their kind.
